Abstract

A static stress analysis of the glass-metal truss type bridge of a Van de Graaff Accelerator is presented. The solutions are first computed using conventional methods such as method of joints and the method of virtual work. Secondly, the solutions are found using a computer program, SAP IV, which is a structural analysis program for static and dynamic response of linear systems. The solutions are then compared to each other and appropriate conclusions are presented.
