Abstract

Theories of voluntary turnover have tried to explain employee turnover and predict turnover decisions. However, many turnover models fail to explain how people decide to leave.. Built on the unfolding turnover model of Lee and Mitchell (1994), this paper considers turnover as a decision which can be processed under both intuitive and non-intuitive systems. Also, in contrast to most extant research on turnover, this paper proposes that individuals compare their current jobs and possible alternatives differently by comparing the utility in the past with the expected utility in the future
