Abstract

The purpose of my thesis will be to incorporate structural members as aesthetic elements in furniture design. In architecture, structure is a major design concern. As a result of the interrelationship between these disciplines, I will apply architectural principles to furniture design. In my thesis I propose to expose and use structure for defining form. More specifically I plan to utilize structure in ways that reveal its own beauty through its functional purpose. I plan to explore this idea by producing as many pieces as possible during the year of my thesis work. Each piece done will involve techniques and processes new to me.
