Abstract

Reflection is a Thesis submitted to the Faculty of the College of Imaging Arts and Sciences in candidacy for the degree of Master of Fine Arts. Reflection by Stephen Brucker is a formal documentation of artwork, conceptual thought process, and technical skills used to facilitate the creation of MFA thesis work and its successive gallery art exhibit. Additionally it offers insight into the artists personal background as well as the artists that influenced and informed the final body of work. Depicted in Reflection is the personal exploration by the artist of three relationships involving water. The relationship between society and the artist is explored in the series of work titled 08292005 and is centered around the Hurricane Katrina disaster. A relationship involving another human being in the process of dying is experienced in the work, Waiting for Goodbye. Lastly the relationship of the artist with himself is represented in the work Tumbleweed.
