The human immune system and its ability to continually develop and learn has been studied for many years. Its capacity to recognize its own cells (self), as well as those that pose a threat to the body's homeostasis (non-self) has lead to the creation of many algorithms that try to mimic this behavior. One of these algorithms is the artificial immune system (AIS). The foundation of AIS depends on the existence of both sensor and communication ranges (assumed circles) with which a single agent can collect and convey information to other agents within the range. It is the purpose of this paper to present a solution to the mine detection problem using cooperative mobile robots equipped with sensory and communication capabilities which allow the AIS approach to be utilized.
