Abstract

The use of the algebraic values of the d_ij's in Eq. (1) does not give a true picture of the process quality level. This is due to the fact that when variables are negatively correlated, deviations of one variable in one direction tend to be compensated for in a sum by deviations of the other variable in the other direction (2). Thus we propose a revision to C_m which is discussed next.
