Employee monitoring is by no means a new phenomenon in the workplace. The advent of e-mail and the Internet has afforded many tech-savvy companies with the opportunity to develop sophisticated electronic monitoring devices so employers can monitor and protect their workplace environment. The introduction of e-mail and the Internet has also given way to new cause for employer concern of employee misuse and abuse of company resources. Additionally, use of company provided Internet and e-mail service brings into effect new ways for companies to become involved in legal suits. As a result of this, many companies have chosen to purchase and employ electronic monitoring software for their organizations.
