Abstract

I would like to thank Chairman Charles J. Fuschillo, Jr. for providing this opportunity to share my views with the respective Committees on the increasingly important issue of deceptive credit card marketing, pricing and consumer contract disclosures during this increasingly complex period of banking deregulation and the impending crisis of the unprecedented high consumer debt levels and deceptive loan contracts. This Committee has a long tradition of examining and protecting consumers rights in the realm of financial services and I hope that this hearing will produce some relief to financially distressed and overburdened New York households as they cope with the rapidly changing credit card policies and practices. In this endeavor, I applaud Senator Fuschillo's leadership in related areas of consumer identity fraud and the creation of a consumer option to freeze access to personal financial information.
