Abstract

Given a solid in R3 whose base is contained in the xy-plane and parallel cross-sections perpendicular to the xy-plane are regular polygons, the volume and surface area are determined. Additionally, the asymptotic behavior of the solid as the number of sides of the cross-sectional polygon increases is analyzed (Refer to PDF file for exact formulas).

Thanks to Vassilios Kovanis, James Marengo, and Richard Orr for their helpful suggestions provided. And to the many freshman that this author has taught over the past few years that were patient enough to derive (2.4) on their own as a part of class.
